Ecclesiastes 2:1 - 23
Here is a preacher from Scotland - well-known for his engagement with atheists – examining Solomon’s fruitless experiments with pleasure and laughter; with wine, women, work and wealth. In the end, argues Ecclesiastes, a world without God is a world without heart.

Life without God is one of oppression, competition, covetousness and envy, a chasing after the wind, in which fame and wealth too often end in loneliness. The believer cannot ignore this, knowing the strength of true companionship, as centering ultimately in Christ who says to His followers, “I have called you friends.”
